Bayern Munich are considering a move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope next summer as they plan for life after Manuel Neuer. The 34-year-old's contract at St James' Park expires in June 2027 and the club currently has no intention of renewing it, leaving him free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January.

Pope has been an unused substitute in Newcastle's last four Premier League games, sitting behind new number one Lukas Hornicek and preferred deputy Ewen Jaouen. His last competitive start came on the final day of the 2025/26 season. Bayern view 23-year-old Jonas Urbig as Neuer's long-term successor but want an experienced deputy to support him, with Pope one of several options on a list that includes Oliver Baumann, Bernd Leno, and Koen Casteels.

Newcastle, who sit ninth in the Premier League with eight points from five games, have a full squad of goalkeeping options. Pope was available for transfer in the recent summer window but did not secure a move.

With Neuer expected to retire at the end of this campaign after turning 41, Bayern are seeking a seasoned professional who can offer leadership. Pope will be available on a free transfer next summer and can begin formal talks with overseas suitors in just over three months' time.
