Newcastle United have reportedly moved closer to a transfer breakthrough after reports in France suggested the Magpies have had a £24.2m offer accepted for Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. The France Under-21 goalkeeper has been linked with the Magpies on a number of occasions in recent weeks after United recruitment staff watched the youngster in action throughout last season. Adding at least one new stopper to Eddie Howe's ranks is said to be high on the list of priorities for the summer transfer window after loan signing Aaron Ramsdale returned to parent club Southampton and veteran keeper John Ruddy confirmed he was leaving the club after his current contract comes to an end later this month. There is still doubt over the future of current number one Nick Pope as he enters the final 12 months of his deal at St James Park - and there have been some suggestions Jaouen will arrive on Tyneside to challenge and compete with a new first-choice stopper who could arrive before the transfer window closes later this summer. The 20-year-old kept 15 clean sheets in 34 appearances for Ligue 2 side Reims last season and his performances throughout the campaign have attracted interest from a number of clubs in recent months. Spanish giants Real Madrid are said to have been closely monitoring Jaouen's progress - but Canal+ journalist Bertrand Latour has now reported Newcastle have struck a deal worth an initial £24.2m and suggests the young stopper has agreed a four-year contract with the Magpies. Newcastle are also reportedly keen on a deal for highly-rated Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna - and the Daily Mail have claimed the Magpies and Chelsea have both made firm moves for the 18-year-old. The report states both clubs have had offers worth around £21.6m accepted by Swedish club AIK - but also reveals Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion are already in talks over a possible agreement. Yohanna moved to AIK from Ikon Allah FA last summer and has made a big impact during his first season by scoring five goals and providing four assists in just 18 appearances. Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are said to have sent scouts to monitor the youngster in action - and over 30 scouts were said to have attended AIK's 1-0 win against Kalmar in April. A statement on AIK's website has confirmed negotiations over a possible sale have started - although stopped short of revealing the clubs involved. It read: 'AIK Fotboll has initiated negotiations regarding the sale of player Zadok Yohanna. The current bid indicates a net profit effect higher than £20m. If and when an agreement has been reached, this will be communicated.' The potential double deal will come as a welcome boost for Magpies sporting director Ross Wilson as he is expected to oversee a hectic summer transfer window in a bid to help strengthen Eddie Howe's squad and move on from what was a deeply disappointing season.
