Newcastle boss Jaissle demands fast learning from young squad

The manager has previous experience of a heavy early defeat, having suffered a 5-1 loss at a similar stage during his time at Al-Ahli, and is determined to ensure the response is swift.

The immediate challenge

The response must begin quickly with a home game against high-flying Hull City next. Hull currently sit fourth in the table, presenting another stern test for Jaissle's team. Newcastle's form has been mixed, with the recent sequence showing a win against Millwall, a draw with Bournemouth, and victories over Tottenham and West Brom preceding the Leeds setback.

With seven goals scored and eight conceded so far, defensive solidity is an obvious area for improvement. The manager's call for greater aggression and a faster adaptation to the league's demands is now the immediate focus.
