Newcastle United have sent academy goalkeeper Aidan Harris on a short-term loan to Hebburn Town. The 19-year-old will join the National League North club for an initial one-month period to gain valuable senior match experience.
Harris has been training with Newcastle's first-team goalkeepers for several months and was named in matchday squads for Champions League fixtures against AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona. His most recent competitive action came during a loan spell with Northern Irish side Coleraine in the first half of the 2025/26 season, where he made 22 senior appearances and kept eight clean sheets.
Development pathway
Hebburn Town manager Daniel Moore admitted surprise at securing the loan, while the club's goalkeeping coach Carl Morris highlighted Harris's potential and the value of the move for his development. The Washington-born keeper, who won Newcastle's Wor Jackie Award in 2024, is expected to make his Hebburn debut in their upcoming match against AFC Telford United on Saturday.
The loan provides Harris with senior football close to Newcastle as the club seeks to develop its academy talent. Newcastle currently sit 11th in the Premier League with eight points from seven games, having lost their last two matches. The team's recent form shows two wins and three defeats from the last five, with the latest results being a 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa on Saturday 17 October and a 4-1 defeat at Coventry on Monday 12 October. In that Coventry match, Sven Botman scored Newcastle's solitary goal. The side has scored 10 goals but conceded 14 this season, leaving them 13 points behind the league leaders. The club's next fixture is away to Crystal Palace, who are 14th, on Sunday 25 October. The squad is currently without several players due to injury, including E. Jaouen, V. Livramento, A. Elanga, and J. Ramsey. Harris's move follows a pattern of Hebburn working with young loanees, having previously hosted Sunderland goalkeeper Isaac Allan.
