Newcastle United are reportedly ready to make a big money move for a La Liga winger after missing out on Osasuna star Victor Munoz. The Magpies appeared to be set to secure the services of the Spain international earlier this month and a move looked to be moving closer over the last ten days. However, Premier League rivals Liverpool moved quickly to complete a quickfire move for the winger and he became the first signing of Andoni Iraola’s managerial reign on Wednesday. Spanish news outlet El Mundo Deportivo have claimed the Magpies now have a deal for Real Betis star Abde Ezzalzouli ‘in their sights’ as they look to secure a replacement for Anthony Gordon following his big money move to La Liga champions Barcelona earlier this month. Ezzalzouli joined Betis from Barca during the summer of 2023 and has impressed by scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists during his time with Los Verdiblancos. After overcoming an injury that limited his involvement during the opening month of the season, the 37-times capped Morocco international provided an assist in a 2-2 draw with Levante before scoring on consecutive weekends against Osasuna and Espanyol. That set the tone for a highly impressive campaign as the winger netted 15 goals and provided 13 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions and secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Featuring in UEFA’s premier club competition is reportedly Ezzalzouli’s focus according to ABC Seville - but that has not stopped Newcastle from considering a move for the winger according to reports elsewhere in Spain. The Mundo Deportivo report states Betis have already made contact with Barcelona over a possible deal for Jan Virgili with speculation over Ezzalzouli’s future increasing - although the Andalusian outfit are also said to have ‘made it clear’ they will not allow the Moroccan to depart for anything less than the release clause placed into his current deal, which is reportedly set at £52m.
