Newcastle United Target Liam Delap
Newcastle United have stepped up interest in Chelsea striker Liam Delap, who scored only one goal in 28 appearances for the Blues during what could be his only season at Stamford Bridge.
Delap’s Chelsea Spell
Delap joined Chelsea in a reported £30m deal last summer. He has struggled to find form, netting just one goal in 28 appearances. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has said he is keen to move a number of players this summer and recently praised Delap after a friendly win against Western Sydney Wanderers, noting he was “doing well” and “in a good mood”.
Training and Availability
Delap is currently training away from the first team alongside Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling. He is expected to be available for transfer, and Chelsea is reportedly looking for a fee of around £35m before they will agree to a deal.
Everton and Forest Interest
Everton are said to have the clearest path to an agreement, having held earlier discussions with the striker and now looking to push through a deal before the summer transfer window closes early next month. Nottingham Forest’s new manager Olivier Glasner has expressed admiration for Delap from his time at Crystal Palace, and sources suggest Leeds United also retain an interest.
Newcastle’s Fresh Contact
TeamTalk reports that Newcastle have ‘stepped up their interest’ in the England Under‑21 international and have made fresh contact with Chelsea over a possible deal. The Magpies are reportedly in a race with Everton and Forest for Delap’s signature.
Transfer Outlook
Chelsea’s £35m valuation remains a hurdle, but the club’s willingness to negotiate may open the door for a move. Newcastle’s interest, combined with Everton’s and Forest’s, could see Delap leave Stamford Bridge before the window closes.
Current Status
Delap’s future at Chelsea remains in doubt. If a deal is reached, he could leave the Blues for a new club where he might rediscover his scoring touch.
